Remote DNS attacks and DNS defenses
To understand Kaminsky Attack, it targets remote DNS servers instead of local DNS servers.
Which I mistakenly thought of.
The target remote DNS server is impossible to sniff for packets unlike locally hosted ones.
Hence a game of probability is used.
The Birthday Paradox, just make guesses until the correct identifier has been found.
Although this is difficult to accomplish since DNS servers would just reuse the cache from the first request.
And waiting for the cache to clear would take at least one day.
Somewhere at least 84 years.
This can be bypassed by using a fake subdomain name.
Like, 48h3r8.google.com to send queries to the DNS server.
Defenses against Kaminsky Attack: (1) DNSSEC, (2) DNS over TLS, and (3) DNS over HTTPS. If remote DNS servers are secure, on the assumption that they have defensed enabled, then how secure are local DNS servers? How is it attacked?
